CENTRE of Policy and Research on Turkey and LSE SU Turkish society organised a joint public panel on Wednesday 7 February 2018 at LSE.

The panel began with the presentation of Professor Loretta Lees, who was well known for her work in the field of urban transformation, in the event that urban transformation processes were discussed through examples of Istanbul and London. Bahar Sakizlioglu and PhD student Clara Rivas Alonso and Dr. Aysegul continued with Can’s discussions.

In the presentations, it was highlighted that the singular and the western-centered viewpoints, are infertile based on the finding that urban transformation has experienced different forms in different countries.

The process of being displaced through the experiences of Okmeydani and Tarlabasi, urban transformation in Istanbul and the ways in which the struggles against them could not be understood only with Western codes and concepts were discussed.
