Police have launched a fresh bid to find a man after a couple watching football in an Islington pub were brutally punched in the face.

Sharron Wilson, 45, and his 46-year-old wife Deborah, who are both teachers, were watching the Manchester derby at The Millers Pub in Caledonian Road when they were attacked.  They decided to leave at about 2.30pm when a man became verbally abusive towards them and punched them both in the face before walking out of the pub.

Following the attack, Mr Wilson was left visually impaired after having a titanium plate fitted to his eye socket.  His wife sustained a facial injury but was not seriously hurt.

Scotland Yard launched a fresh appeal for witnesses to the attack, which happened on the afternoon of September 10 last year.  Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. Detective Constable Adrian Safiani from Islington CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a horrible assault on what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon out.

“Sharron Wilson now suffers from visual impairment after having a titanium plate fitted to his eye socket. We are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the male in the image or anyone who witnessed the incident.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact Islington CID via 101 or by tweeting at @MetCC or to give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
