İdil Biret
TURKISH MOZART PLAYER Idil Biret is to perform once again at the John’s Smith Square Hall on Thursday 29 October at 7pm.
Idil Biret first performed in concert in the UK, right back in 1960 at the age of just eighteen. She has returned several times since then giving concerts and recitals in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow Edinburgh and other cities.
On 29 October, Idil Biret for the first time will make a live recording in front of an invited audience in London with the LMP, this time conducted by John Gibbons, at the St. John’s Smith Sq. Hall.
What have been Idil Biret’s successes?
Idil Biret have performed in several cities of the UK with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Manchester Halle Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Welsh Symphony, BBC Manchester Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC Symphony, Birmingham Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra and others under the batons of Nadia Boulanger, Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Andrew Davis, Anatole Fistoulari, Lawrence Foster, Louis Fremaux, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Sir Alexander Gibson, Sir Charles Groves, Howard Griffiths, Rudolph Kempe, Stephen Kovacevich, Andrew Litton, James Loughran, Sir Charles Mackerras, Pierre Monteux, Sir John Pritchard, Gennadi Rojdestvensky, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Barry Tuckwell among others.
The most memorable among these were the performances of the Rachmaninov 3rd with the London Symphony conducted by Pierre Monteux, the Prokofiev 3rd again with the London Symphony conducted by Rozhdestvensky, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra the Tippett Concerto under the baton of Sir John Pritchard, Hindemith and Mozart concertos with the Halle Orchestra conducted by Nadia Boulanger and the Tchaikovsky 2nd with the BBC Orchestra in Manchester.
In London, Biret performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, and more recently at the St. John’s Smith Sq. Hall with the Whitehall Orchestra conducted by Michael Nebe. She has also given many recitals for the Chopin Society at different venues. She made her first ever orchestral recording in 1988 with the Philharmonia Orchestra, after a concert at the Barbican Hall, recording the 2nd and 4th Concertos of Saint-Saens.
After more than twenty five years of recording activity in the continent where she recorded over fifty concertos including all the piano concertos of Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Tchaikovsky she returned to London again in December 2014 and recorded two Mozart Concertos K.415 and K.453 with the London Mozart players conducted by Patrick Gallois.
